Cursor Marketplace review: the most carefully checked skills store (2026)

Cursor Marketplace home page with featured plugins such as Google Drive, Gmail, Slack and Notion

The Cursor Marketplace is the official add-on store for Cursor, the AI code editor: plugins that bundle skills, rules, sub-agents and connectors to apps such as Stripe, Figma, Slack and Xero. It's the most carefully policed of the skills stores, with every plugin and every update reviewed by hand. But it only works inside Cursor, prices are in dollars before VAT, and Cursor's plans changed again on 12 October after its sale to SpaceX. I rate it ★★★☆☆ 3/5.

What is the Cursor Marketplace?

A Cursor plugin bundles "skills, subagents, MCP servers, hooks, and rules" into a single install. Put simply, it teaches Cursor's agent a new job and connects it to another app, so it can read your Stripe payments, turn a Figma design into code or post a summary to Slack.

You browse plugins at cursor.com/marketplace or on the Customize page inside Cursor, and install one with a click or the /add-plugin command. Each plugin page shows who made it and whether it's "Verified by Cursor".

Don't confuse it with Cursor's extension store, which draws on the open-source Open VSX registry, or with the Origin App Marketplace launched on 13 October for Origin, Cursor's GitHub alternative.

Who owns Cursor?

  • Cursor is made by Anysphere, Inc., based in San Francisco.
  • SpaceX announced on 16 June 2026 that it would buy Cursor for $60 billion in stock, and Cursor confirmed the deal closed on 14 August 2026.
  • The marketplace launched on 17 February 2026 with Cursor 2.5. Launch partners included Amplitude, AWS, Figma, Linear and Stripe.
  • Private team marketplaces followed on 3 March, and more than 30 new plugins, from Atlassian, Datadog, GitLab, Hugging Face and monday.com among others, on 11 March.

Cursor is one of the most used AI coding tools. In November 2025 the company said it had passed $1 billion in annual revenue with "millions of developers". The marketplace itself is smaller than the open skills directories: I counted about 193 plugins on 18 October 2026, and Cursor's own GitHub repository of plugins, cursor/plugins, has about 12,200 stars.

How much does it cost?

Plugins are free to install, and no listing fee or commission is mentioned. You pay for Cursor. On 12 October 2026 Cursor's plans became part of "The X Subscription", sold by X Subscription Corp and bundled with Grok, Grok Bot and X Premium.

PlanPrice a monthNotes
Free$0
Plus$8 (about £6)Only Grok models on this plan
Premium$30 (about £23)Other companies' models billed at API list prices
Super$100 (about £75)
Ultra$200 (about £150)
TeamsFrom $30 a user (about £23)Up to one private team marketplace
EnterpriseCustomUnlimited private marketplaces

Prices are in US dollars and "do not include applicable taxes or fees (e.g. VAT)". Existing Cursor subscribers keep their old plans until they switch. Pound figures are approximate.

Hidden costs

  • VAT on top. Cursor's prices exclude VAT, so UK buyers pay 20% more.
  • Model costs. On Premium and above, models from companies other than xAI are billed separately at their API list prices.
  • Connected apps. A Stripe, Figma or Xero plugin is only useful if you already pay for that service.

Listing your plugin

  • A plugin is a Git repository that you submit through cursor.com/marketplace/publish.
  • It must be open source, and Cursor says it reviews every plugin and every update by hand, and that no binaries are shipped.
  • No fee or commission is mentioned, and there's no way to sell a plugin through the store.
  • Teams and Enterprise customers can run private marketplaces for their own plugins.

Is it safe?

It has the strictest rules of the stores I've reviewed. Cursor says "every plugin in the Cursor Marketplace is manually reviewed before it's listed", "we manually review every plugin update", "no binaries are shipped" and "all marketplace plugins must be open source". Plugins can only use the MCP connectors you've allowed. It also adds that installation "is at the discretion and risk of the installing user".

I found no reported incident involving a Cursor Marketplace plugin. Cursor and its wider ecosystem have had problems, though:

  • Rules File Backdoor (March 2025): Pillar Security showed hidden characters in Cursor rules files could make the agent insert malicious code.
  • MCPoison (July 2025): Check Point found an approved connector could be swapped for a malicious one later. Cursor fixed it in version 1.3.
  • Fake extensions (2025): a fake Solidity extension on Open VSX aimed at Cursor users led to about $500,000 in stolen crypto (Kaspersky). Cursor now scans Open VSX extensions for malware before installing them.

For any plugin or skill, our five-point check before you install still applies.

What other people rate it

I found no third-party star rating. The launch got little mainstream press. One developer's review called it "not a brand new breakthrough", with the value mainly in convenience. Fans like the official plugins from Stripe, Figma and Slack; the main criticism is that it only works in Cursor.

What's good

  • Every plugin and every update reviewed by hand
  • Plugins must be open source, with no binaries
  • Official plugins straight from Stripe, Figma, Slack, Notion and others
  • One-click install inside Cursor
  • Private marketplaces for teams

What's not so good

  • Only works in Cursor
  • Prices in dollars, excluding VAT, and changed again in October 2026
  • Smaller choice than skills.sh, and no total count published
  • No UK or EU data residency option
  • New ownership by SpaceX adds uncertainty

Who is it for?

The Cursor Marketplace suits developers, agencies and small product teams that already build in Cursor and want trusted connections to their payment, design and project tools. It's a poor fit if you don't write code, or if you use Claude Code or other agents; skills.sh and Anthropic's plugin directory cover those.

Using it in the UK

Cursor works in the UK, but you pay in dollars plus 20% VAT. The only data residency option is US-only, for Enterprise customers. Cursor's privacy policy says personal data may go to US servers.

Switch on Privacy Mode if you work on client code: Cursor says it then won't use your code for training and has zero-retention agreements with its model providers. Requests still pass through Cursor's servers even if you use your own API key. Reports of SpaceX's filing about the deal said Cursor data could help improve its Grok models, so check the current terms before trusting it with sensitive work.

Interesting facts

  • Cursor's own team maintains about 50 connector plugins, for services such as Gmail and Xero.
  • Xero, the accounting software popular with UK small businesses, has an official plugin.
  • Cursor launched the marketplace just four weeks after Vercel opened skills.sh.

The most carefully policed skills store, with excellent official plugins. Worth it if you live in Cursor; everyone else should start with skills.sh or Anthropic's directory.
