Poe is Quora's AI chat app. It puts models and bots from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, ElevenLabs and many smaller makers in one place, so you can try them side by side. It suits curious individuals and small teams who want several AIs for one fee. There is a free tier, and paid plans start at £4.99 a month on the UK App Store. Bot makers in the UK can earn per message. It is easy and good value, but chats are shared widely. Our rating: ★★★½☆ 3.5/5.

What is Poe?
Poe lets you chat with many different AI models in one app. Its Explore page lists official bots from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, xAI, Mistral and others, in categories such as Search, Image, Video, Audio and Programming. A general Assistant bot picks a model for you based on the task.
Anyone can also build a bot on Poe. Options range from a prompt bot, which is a base model with your own instructions, to server bots and canvas apps that run your own code. Some well-known companies run bots there too, such as ElevenLabs for text-to-speech.
You pay with compute points. A subscription gives you a set number of points, and each message to a bot uses some of them. Bot makers can set a price per message and get paid for every message users send.
Who owns Poe?
- Poe is owned and run by Quora, Inc., which is a private company.
- Adam D'Angelo is Quora's chief executive.
- In January 2024 Quora raised $75 million from Andreessen Horowitz, mainly to pay Poe creators. TechCrunch reported a valuation of about $500 million.
- Poe opened to the public in February 2023.
How popular is Poe?
Poe is a well-known name but a much smaller site than ChatGPT.
- Similarweb's public page for poe.com showed 5.4M visits in its September 2026 report, under a "last 3 months" heading, with a global rank of 9,751. The UK sent 3.24% of that traffic.
- The Poe Android app shows more than 10 million downloads on Google Play.
- Andreessen Horowitz said in January 2024 that creators had built over 1 million bots on Poe.
- The general Assistant bot had 261,189 followers on 16 October 2026.
How much does Poe cost?
Poe has a free tier and paid plans. The UK App Store shows these prices in pounds.
| Plan or fee | Price | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Free | Free | Limited use of bots. For non-subscribers the Assistant bot uses GPT-5.4-Nano for general questions. |
| Basic | £4.99 a month or £49.99 a year (UK App Store) | A paid allowance of compute points. Poe's help centre says plans start at $4.99 a month (about £3.75). |
| Plus | £19.99 a month or £199.99 a year (UK App Store) | A bigger allowance of compute points. The Assistant bot uses GPT-5.5 for subscribers. |
| Add-on points | From $30 per 1 million points (about £23) | Extra points for subscribers and API users, valid for one year and non-refundable. |
Poe does not publish what share it keeps. Users see one price in points, which combines the creator's price with Poe's own costs.
Hidden costs
- Points run out. Each message uses points, and the cost depends on the bot. Unused plan points do not roll over unless your plan says so.
- Points per plan are unclear. Poe's help centre does not say how many points each plan includes or how many a message uses.
- Creator prices. Bot makers can charge up to $10,000 per 1,000 messages, so some bots cost far more than others.
- VAT. Poe's subscriber terms say fees do not include VAT, and any tax Quora must collect is added at checkout. App Store and Google Play prices may already include VAT.
- Refunds. Subscription fees and add-on points are non-refundable, except under Poe's refund policy.

Selling your agent on Poe
- Who can list: Anyone with a Poe account can build a bot. Poe supports prompt bots, server bots, script bots, canvas apps and bots that connect to your own AI model.
- Approval: The creator docs we read do not describe a review before a bot goes public.
- How you earn: You set a price per message in US dollars per 1,000 messages, up to $10,000. Poe pays you that price every time someone messages your bot. Poe says it can also cover the AI model costs for bots built on its own bot query API.
- Who can earn: Creators in eligible regions who accept the earnings terms. The UK is on the list, along with the US, Ireland, Canada, Australia and 18 other places.
- Payouts: Poe pays in US dollars through Stripe, which converts to your own currency. The minimum is $10, and money arrives 30-45 days after the end of each month. You must give tax details within 90 days of joining.

What's not so good
- Poe's privacy policy says developers who build bots through its APIs may store your chats and use them to train their models.
- The help centre does not say how many points each plan includes, so it is hard to compare value.
- The public Explore page shows official bots only, so community bots are harder to find.
- We could not find a review or approval step for new bots in Poe's creator docs.
Who is it for?
Poe suits freelancers, writers and small teams who want to try several AI models and pay one bill. It is also a simple place for UK makers to publish a bot and earn per message.
Skip it if you handle sensitive client data, because chats are shared with the model makers and bot developers.
