Baidu Wenxin Agent Platform review: China's search-linked agent store (2026)

Baidu agent store showing a loading error, October 2026

Baidu's Wenxin Agent Platform (文心智能体平台, also called AgentBuilder) is a Chinese store of AI agents that can also appear in Baidu Search. It is for Chinese-speaking users and for businesses that sell to China. Using agents is free. Baidu said it would stop people creating new agents from 31 August 2026, though existing ones still work. For a UK small business it is hard to use and offers little. I rate it ★★½☆☆ 2.5/5.

Key facts

  • What it is: Baidu's agent store and no-code agent builder, with agents shown on agents.baidu.com and pushed into Baidu Search and other Baidu apps
  • Made by: Baidu. The platform's contract is with Beijing Baidu Netcom Science and Technology Co., Ltd. (北京百度网讯科技有限公司), part of Baidu, Inc.
  • Launched: September 2023 as the Lingjing Matrix (灵境矩阵) plugin platform. It was renamed Wenxin Agent Platform in April 2024
  • Size: Over 800,000 developers and 150,000 companies had joined by November 2024 (Xinhua). Similarweb shows 339,600 visits to agents.baidu.com under its three-month visits heading for September 2026
  • Price: Free to use; building was free until creation was due to close on 31 August 2026
  • Best for: Businesses that want their brand or service to show up inside Baidu Search in China
  • Available in the UK: You can open the site, but it is Chinese only, needs a Baidu account tied to a phone number, and stores data in China
  • Seller commission: No published rate. Creators earn through ad revenue share, lead sales, product links and paid consultations, at shares Baidu does not publish
  • Our rating: ★★½☆☆ 2.5/5

What is Baidu Wenxin Agent Platform?

The Wenxin Agent Platform lets people and organisations build an AI agent by writing instructions, adding a knowledge base and choosing plugins or workflows. The agents run on Baidu's Wenxin (ERNIE) models, and DeepSeek models are also offered free. Finished agents go into the platform's agent store (智能体商店) and plugin store, where anyone can open and chat with them.

Its big selling point is distribution. Baidu says agents can reach users through Baidu Search, the Wenxin Yiyan (ERNIE Bot) chatbot, Baidu Maps, Xiaodu smart devices and car systems. Only agents that pass Baidu's quality checks are shown in search results.

2026 has brought big changes. On 10 August 2026 Baidu said the buttons for creating agents, copying agents and building workflows would close on 31 August. Existing agents can still be used and edited, and Baidu says further changes will be announced later. Its documentation changelog has not been updated since December 2025. The store itself is still live, and Baidu was still reviewing agents in October 2026.

Who owns Baidu Wenxin Agent Platform?

  • The platform belongs to Baidu. Its terms are an agreement with Beijing Baidu Netcom Science and Technology Co., Ltd. and its affiliates.
  • Baidu's legal department is at 10 Shangdi 10th Street, Haidian District, Beijing. Disputes go to the Haidian District court under Chinese law.
  • Baidu's co-founder, chairman and chief executive is Robin Li (李彦宏).
  • Baidu, Inc. is listed on Nasdaq as BIDU and in Hong Kong as 9888.
  • The platform began in September 2023 as Lingjing Matrix, a plugin platform for Baidu's Wenxin chatbot. It became an agent platform in December 2023 and took its current name in April 2024.

The platform grew fast in 2024. Baidu has published few figures since.

  • About 200,000 developers and 63,000 companies had joined by July 2024 (IT之家).
  • By November 2024 that had grown to over 800,000 developers and about 150,000 companies, with more than 100,000 developers earning money from their agents (Xinhua).
  • More than 100,000 agents were using its money-making features by November 2024 (Xinhua).

  • Agents can show adverts, and some collect your contact details as sales leads, which Baidu then sells on the creator's behalf.
  • Creators who earn money in China have personal income tax deducted by Baidu before payment.

Selling your agent on Baidu Wenxin Agent Platform

  • Who can list: Individuals and organisations, including companies, media and government bodies. Baidu said new agents could not be created after 31 August 2026, so new sellers may not be able to join for now.
  • Review: Agents go through a basic review before they appear on the platform. Only higher-quality agents are chosen for Baidu Search, and Baidu checks them again over time.
  • Ways to earn: Ad revenue share, union ads, selling user leads, linking to products (including Pinduoduo items) and paid consultations for industry agents. Baidu does not publish its share of the money.
  • Getting paid: Payouts go automatically to a bank card each month, landing after the 25th of the following month. You need real-name verification, with the same person on the account, bank card and phone number. Companies must pass a separate authenticity check.

What other people rate it

I found no ratings for the Wenxin Agent Platform on G2, Capterra or Trustpilot.

What's good

  • Using agents is free, and building them was free too.
  • Good agents can reach a huge audience through Baidu Search and other Baidu apps.
  • The store holds well-used agents from Baidu's own teams, such as Aicaigou, Aiqicha and Wenku.
  • Agents are reviewed before going live, and Baidu says it masks names, addresses, ID and phone numbers in chat records that creators can see.
  • Payout rules, thresholds and tax handling are clearly documented.

What's not so good

  • Baidu said new agent creation would switch off on 31 August 2026, with no date for what comes next.
  • Everything is in Chinese, and the agents are built for Chinese users and Chinese law.
  • The most visible categories lean heavily towards fortune-telling, relationship advice, games and celebrity trivia.
  • Baidu does not publish what share of ad or lead income creators receive.
  • When I checked from outside China, the store page often failed to load its listings.

Who is it for?

It suits Chinese-speaking businesses that already have agents on the platform and want to keep reaching Baidu Search users.

Most UK small businesses should skip it. You cannot build a new agent here at the moment, and the store offers little in English.

Using it in the UK

  • Availability: The site opens from the UK, but the interface and agents are in Chinese only.
  • Accounts: A Baidu account is needed, and Baidu's privacy policy says registration uses a mobile phone number. Earning money needs Chinese real-name checks and a bank card in the same name.
  • Data: Baidu says personal information collected in China is stored in China. The terms fall under Chinese law, with disputes heard in Beijing.
  • Money and VAT: Using agents is free, so there is no currency or VAT to deal with. Creator earnings are paid in yuan to a bank card.

Baidu's agent store is free and plugged into China's biggest search engine, but it has stopped taking new agents. For UK users it is a curiosity rather than a tool.

Frequently asked questions

Is Baidu's agent platform free?

Yes. Baidu's FAQ says all Wenxin agents are free to use, and API access is free up to 500 calls a day.

Can I still build an agent on Baidu's Wenxin Agent Platform?

Probably not at the moment. Baidu said in August that the buttons for creating agents and workflows would close on 31 August 2026. Agents made before then can still be used and edited.

Can I use Baidu's agent store from the UK?

You can open it, but it is in Chinese, needs a phone-based Baidu account and keeps data in China. Most UK users will find an English-language store more useful.
