Coze is ByteDance's platform for building AI agents and sharing them in a public store. It comes in two versions. Coze.com is the international one and works in the UK. Coze.cn (扣子) is the Chinese one, built for users in mainland China. The international store is free to browse, and paid plans cost $9-39 a month. It is a capable no-code builder with a tired, thinly vetted catalogue. I rate it ★★★☆☆ 3/5.

What is Coze?

Coze lets you build an agent by picking a model, writing instructions and adding plugins, workflows and knowledge files. You can then publish it to the Coze store, to messaging apps, or as an API. On coze.com the agent store is called Work Community and sits next to a separate Plugin Store and a Template Store. Without an account, the store address sends you to the homepage, which shows a selection of agents. Single listings are public, but the Plugin Store and Template Store need a login.

The international version has slowed down. Its release notes stop at 26 September 2025. On that date Coze split the old store into Plugin Store and Work Community. It also switched off several features, including multi-agent mode, voice, triggers, long-term memory and the Filebox.

Coze.cn has gone the other way. In January 2026 it relaunched as Coze 2.0, renamed its developer platform 扣子编程 (Coze Coding) and opened a skill store. Coze 3.0 followed around 1 June 2026. It turned 扣子 into a shared workspace where people and several agents work on projects together. The old coze.cn agent store address now sends visitors to the homepage, and the skill and template stores sit behind a login. So the two versions are now different products. Coze.com is a builder with an agent store. Coze.cn is an AI co-worker app with a skill marketplace.

Who owns Coze?

  • Coze is a ByteDance product. Coze's own Chinese documentation describes 扣子 as a ByteDance platform.
  • Coze.com is provided by SPRING (SG) PTE. LTD., at 77 Robinson Road, Singapore. Its terms are governed by Singapore law.
  • Coze.cn is operated by Beijing Chuntian Zhiyun Technology Co., Ltd., based in Xicheng District, Beijing. Coze.cn sign-in runs through Volcano Engine, ByteDance's cloud business.
  • ByteDance was founded in 2012 by Yiming Zhang and Rubo Liang. Rubo Liang chairs the board, and the company has more than 150,000 employees.
  • Coze first launched in mid-2023. The Chinese 扣子 followed in February 2024.

Coze is far bigger in China than abroad.

  • Coze.cn's homepage counter showed more than 100.5 million agents at work on 16 October 2026.
  • Similarweb ranked coze.cn #20,019 in the world for September 2026. It showed 2.2 million visits under its "last 3 months" heading, traffic down 25.63% on the month before, and 92.32% of visitors from China.
  • Similarweb ranked coze.com #164,791 for September 2026, with 266,100 visits under the same heading. China was its biggest source of traffic at 50.05%.
  • The open-source Coze Studio project had 21,500 stars on GitHub in October 2026.
  • Coze.cn says tens of thousands of companies and millions of developers use its developer platform.

Coze.com takes no commission because you cannot sell agents there. Coze.cn splits paid skill and template income with sellers at a preset ratio it does not publish.

Hidden costs

  • Each model call uses credits. On coze.com, GPT-4o (8k) costs 2 credits a call and GPT-5 costs 5, so the free 10 credits cover about five GPT-4o calls a day.
  • Some official plugins cost extra credits, such as DALL-E 3 at 10 credits a call and Bing Web Search at 1.
  • Chatting with someone else's agent can use your own credits. User message billing is on by default, and creators can sponsor only 0-100 free messages.
  • API and Web SDK use is paid with separate Coze tokens, after 30 free API calls and 100 Web SDK calls per account.
  • Coze.com charges in US dollars and its pricing page does not mention VAT. Coze.cn shows first-month discounts, such as ¥32 instead of ¥39.9, then renews at the full price.

Selling your agent on Coze

  • Coze.com: Anyone with an account can publish an agent to Work Community. You pick a category and choose whether others can see and copy its set-up. Coze's guide describes no approval step, and there are no paid listings or payouts.
  • Coze.cn: Creators can sell skills, priced per use or by monthly, quarterly or yearly subscription. You must first apply for listing rights, and the Coze team reviews each skill's icon, name, description and features.
  • Getting paid on coze.cn: Sellers open a payee account through Alipay or Douyin Pay. This needs a Chinese ID card and bank card, or a Chinese business licence. Money is held for 7 days, then split at Coze's preset ratio, and sellers withdraw it themselves.

On G2, Coze scores 5.0 out of 5 from just 1 review (checked 16 October 2026). I found no Trustpilot page for coze.com or coze.cn.

What's good

  • Coze.com publishes clear US dollar prices on a public page, with the credit cost of each model.
  • The free plan gives 10 credits a day, enough to try the store before paying.
  • You can publish one agent to Discord, Telegram, Slack, WhatsApp, Messenger, LINE, Instagram, Reddit and Lark, or run it as an API.
  • Coze.com's privacy policy names a UK GDPR representative and explains how data leaves the UK.
  • Coze Studio is open source under the Apache 2.0 licence, so a technical team can host its own copy.
  • Coze.cn reviews skills before they go on sale.

What's not so good

  • The international catalogue looks dated. Popular listings still advertise o1-preview, Claude 3.5 Sonnet and GPT-3.5, and some date from 2024.
  • Coze.com has published no release notes since September 2025, when it removed features such as voice, triggers and multi-agent mode.
  • On some of my visits the coze.com store panel showed "No usable agents" instead of listings.
  • You cannot sell agents or earn money on coze.com.
  • Coze.cn's skill store sits behind a Chinese login, and its seller payouts need Chinese ID and payment accounts.

Who is it for?

Coze.com suits hobbyists, creators and small teams who want to build a chat agent without code and push it to a messaging app. It is a cheap way to experiment.

Skip it if you want a curated store of business-ready agents, or a place to earn from agents you build. UK businesses should also skip coze.cn unless they already work with Chinese partners and accounts.

Using it in the UK

  • Which one to use: Use coze.com. It is the version designed for users outside China, and its terms cover UK customers.
  • Contract and data: Your contract is with SPRING (SG) PTE. LTD. under Singapore law. Coze says it may store personal data on servers in Singapore and Malaysia, and it relies on adequacy decisions or standard contractual clauses for UK transfers. It names a UK GDPR representative. You must be 18 or over.
  • Money: Plans are priced in US dollars and the pricing page does not mention VAT. UK and EEA consumers get a 14-day right to withdraw from Coze Premium purchases, even though the billing FAQ otherwise says charged fees are not refunded.
  • Coze.cn: Sign-up is by phone number (the login form defaults to +86), Douyin, Feishu or Volcano Engine account. Coze.cn stores personal data inside mainland China, and its cloud devices cannot open overseas websites.

  • Coze.cn's homepage runs a live counter. On 16 October 2026 it claimed more than 100.5 million agents were at work.
  • Coze 3.0 lets you plug in agents running on your own computer, including Claude Code, Codex CLI and OpenClaw, and have them work alongside Coze's own agents.
  • On coze.cn an agent can be given its own email address to send and receive mail. The feature is free for a limited time.
