Apify Store review: web data tools for people and AI agents (2026)

Apify Store marketplace home page, October 2026

Apify Store is a marketplace of more than 89,000 ready-made "Actors": cloud tools that scrape websites, collect data and automate web tasks, for people and for AI agents. It suits small businesses that want leads, reviews or web content without writing code, and developers building AI agents. There is a free plan with $5 of usage a month, and paid plans start at $19 a month (about £14). The catalogue is huge and cheap per result, but costs can stack up. I rate it 3.5/5.

What is Apify Store?

Apify is a cloud platform for web scraping and browser automation. Its Store is where developers publish "Actors", which are small cloud programs you run with a form in your browser, by API, or through an AI assistant. Most Actors collect data from a website, such as Google Maps, Instagram or an online shop, and hand it back as a spreadsheet or JSON file.

The Store is not mainly a shop for chat agents. It is a large toolbox that people and AI agents use to fetch live web data. In October 2026 Apify rebuilt its Store categories around the job you want done, and added filters for industry, website, output type and Actor type, including "Agent" and "MCP server".

The Apify MCP server, at mcp.apify.com, lets AI assistants such as Claude, Cursor, VS Code, GitHub Copilot and Codex search the Store and run Actors. You sign in with OAuth or an API token. Each run is billed at that Actor's price, and you can set a spending cap per run. Inside Apify's own dashboard, a chat tool in beta called Apify AI can also find and run Actors for you, asking before each run.

Who owns Apify Store?

  • The Store is run by Apify Technologies s.r.o., registered in Prague. There is no parent company.
  • Jan Čurn founded the company with Jakub Balada in 2015 and is its CEO.
  • Apify started in the Y Combinator Fellowship in Mountain View, California, and launched publicly in October 2015 as "Apifier". The team moved back to the Czech Republic in 2016.
  • It is privately held. In April 2024 it raised €2.8 million (about £2.4 million) from J&T Ventures, with existing investor Reflex Capital.
  • Tech.eu reported revenue of €6.7 million for 2023, with a profit of almost €1 million.
  • I could not find a launch date for the Store itself.

It is the largest store in this guide by number of listings.

  • Website visits: About 4 million visits in the three months to September 2026, down 5% on the month before (Similarweb). This covers the whole apify.com domain, not just the Store. The UK sent about 4.8% of desktop traffic.
  • Listings: 89,427 Actors (16 October 2026).
  • Customers: Apify says it has around 91,000 customers worldwide (October 2026).
  • Developer earnings: Apify says it paid $1.7 million to developers in the latest month (October 2026).
  • Top listing: Google Maps Scraper showed 653,000 total users and 1,817 ratings (October 2026).

Hidden costs

  • Actor fees on top of your plan. Each Actor has its own price, which often falls on bigger plans. Instagram Scraper costs $2.70 per 1,000 results on the free plan but $1.50 on Business (about £2.03 and £1.13).
  • Compute and storage. Pay-per-usage Actors also burn compute units, from $0.13 to $0.20 each depending on your plan, plus storage and data transfer.
  • Proxies. Residential proxies cost $7-$8 per GB (about £5.26-£6.02), and Google search proxies $1.70-$2.50 per 1,000 requests.
  • Outside AI costs. Some Actors call other services. AI Web Agent, for example, runs on OpenAI and you pay for that usage too.
  • Currency, VAT and refunds. Prices are in US dollars. Unused prepaid usage does not roll over, fees are non-refundable, and the terms say Apify adds VAT where it applies.

Selling your agent on Apify Store

  • Who can list: Anyone over 18 can publish. You start as an unverified Creator, become a Verified Creator after an ID check, and can be invited to Partner level.
  • Approval: There is no review before an Actor goes live. Apify runs automated tests, can mark faulty Actors "under maintenance" and can remove one that stays broken for 30 days.
  • Pricing: You choose pay per event, pay per usage, or rental. You can raise prices once a month, with 14 days' notice.
  • Commission: You get 80% of what users pay, minus the platform costs of their runs. Apify keeps 20%.
  • Payouts: Monthly. Apify issues an invoice on the 11th and pays between the 21st and 25th. The minimum is $20 by PayPal or Wise and $100 by other methods. Wire payments come from the Czech Republic and banks along the way may take fees.
  • Testing budget: The Creator plan gives $500 of free usage for six months.

What other people rate it

These ratings cover the whole Apify platform.

  • G2: 4.7/5 from 668 reviews, checked 16 October 2026.
  • Capterra: 4.8/5 from 601 reviews, checked 16 October 2026.
  • Trustpilot: 4.8/5 from 785 reviews, checked 16 October 2026.

What's good

  • The catalogue is huge, with 89,427 Actors, and each listing shows its price, users, rating and who maintains it.
  • The free plan gives $5 of usage a month with no credit card.
  • Per-result prices are low. Google Maps Scraper starts at $1.50 per 1,000 places.
  • One MCP server connects AI assistants to the whole Store, with a spending cap per run.
  • New Actors get limited permissions by default, and you must approve any Actor that wants full access to your account.
  • Third-party ratings are strong, at 4.7-4.8 out of 5 across G2, Capterra and Trustpilot.

What's not so good

  • Most listings are scrapers and data tools, not ready-made agents. AI Web Agent, a true agent, says it is experimental and not actively maintained.
  • Costs stack up: Actor fees, compute, storage and proxies, with prices that change by plan.
  • Actors are not reviewed before they go live, and the terms say Apify is not responsible for third-party Actors.
  • Prices are in dollars, prepaid usage does not roll over and fees are non-refundable.

Who is it for?

It suits small businesses that want lead lists, competitor reviews, social media data or website text without writing code. It also suits developers who want reliable web data tools for their AI agents through MCP.

Skip it if you want a finished chat assistant that answers customers. You will also want to skip it if you cannot check that collecting a site's data, or people's details, is allowed.

Using it in the UK

Apify is open to UK customers and you can sign up online. The terms say it is for business use, not consumers.

Prices are in US dollars. The terms say Apify is VAT-registered in the Czech Republic and adds VAT to fees where it applies. The pricing page does not say whether its prices include VAT.

Apify's data processing addendum covers UK GDPR using EU standard contractual clauses plus the UK ICO's addendum. It says data may be moved to the United States or other countries where Apify or its suppliers work. I found no UK or EU data region option.

Many popular Actors collect personal data such as names, emails and social profiles. If you use them, you are responsible for handling that data lawfully under UK GDPR.
