Meta Muse is Meta's personal AI agent: it runs on its own cloud computer and carries out tasks for you, such as sorting email, booking tables and shopping. It is aimed at ordinary adults, not developers. Muse is free with a usage limit, with paid plans at $20 and $100 a month (about £15 and £75). For British readers the key fact is simple: as of 23 October 2026 Muse works in the US, Canada and, from 23 October, Japan, with no UK date. And if you do use it, it trains on your chats unless you switch that off.

What is Meta Muse?
Muse is an AI agent, not a chatbot. You give it a goal, such as "find me a cheaper phone contract", and it plans the steps, opens a browser, fills in forms and asks for your approval before anything sensitive, like sending an email or paying.
Meta launched Muse in the US on 8 September 2026, on iPhone, Android, the web and WhatsApp, and added Canada on 18 September. Each user gets a Muse Secure VM, a private computer with a browser in Meta's cloud, so Muse keeps working when your phone is in your pocket. A gatekeeper agent called Sentinel must approve anything it sends to the internet. Reuters reported that Muse was modelled on the open-source agent OpenClaw.
Muse is not Meta AI, the chatbot inside WhatsApp and Instagram that does work in the UK. The Muse name covers a whole family:
- Muse: the agent app this guide covers.
- Muse Spark and Muse Wonder: Meta's AI models.
- Muse Code: Meta's coding agent for the terminal.
- Muse Spark Open: a downloadable, open-weight version of Spark.
Is Meta Muse available in the UK?
No. As of 24 October 2026, Meta Muse is not available in the UK, and Meta has given no date.
What Meta's own pages confirm:
- The Muse for Small Business post (29 September, updated 8 October) describes Muse as "available in the US and Canada".
- The Muse Help Center says the app and website are not yet available everywhere.
- The subscriptions page says you must be located in a country where Muse is available.
What is not confirmed: Meta publishes no full country list and no UK date. On 21 October Mark Zuckerberg gave a reason: Muse is compute-intensive to run, and Meta wants to adapt it and its connectors for each country before launching more widely. Notebookcheck's 13 October report that the app skips Europe matches this. The UK isn't singled out: Google keeps Gemini Spark out of the UK too, and OpenAI excludes UK personal Pro accounts from ChatGPT Dots.
Can you use a VPN to get Meta Muse in the UK?
Not within the rules. The Muse terms bring in the Meta Terms of Service, which ban any attempt to "circumvent, bypass, or override any technological measures" Meta uses to limit access. Section 17 of the Muse terms lets Meta suspend Muse and linked Meta accounts for breaches. Muse would also be acting with your real email and cards. I would not try it.
What UK users can do instead
- Developers: Meta's Model API and Muse Code may work here, but Meta doesn't confirm it. Meta says the API is available in most places with Meta AI and billing support, and the UK isn't on its restricted list.
- Windows: the Windows app Microsoft announced has no date or country list, so it won't change UK access on its own.
- Muse Spark Open: a model you can run locally, not the Muse app, on costly hardware.
- Agents that work here today: ChatGPT Plus with ChatGPT Work (£20 a month), Claude Pro, Grok Bot, ChatGPT Dots through a Business Premium seat, or self-hosted OpenClaw or Hermes Agent. The step-by-step guide below shows how.
How to get Muse-style help in the UK today, step by step
You can't get Muse here, but you can get its four main jobs done: email triage, bookings, shopping shortlists and reminders. As of 24 October 2026, the most practical route is ChatGPT Plus, using ChatGPT Work, which has replaced OpenAI's older agent mode.
Work's cloud browser keeps going after you close the app and asks before it books or pays. Work can also run tasks on a schedule or when a new Gmail message arrives. OpenAI's UK pricing page shows Plus at £20 a month.
- Subscribe to Plus. At chatgpt.com, choose Plus. Success is a Chat and Work switch on the web or in the app.
- Check your data settings. Open Settings, then Data controls, and decide whether OpenAI may use your chats for training.
- Make the browser ask first. In Settings, then Cloud browser, choose "Always ask" for website access.
- Connect Gmail only. In Settings, then Plugins, add Gmail, and Google Calendar if you want it. Read the permissions before you approve (OpenAI's guide).
- Set up email triage. Choose Work and type: "Summarise my unread email, flag anything urgent and draft replies. Send nothing." Then ask it to repeat each weekday at 8am, or when new email arrives.
- Ask for a shopping shortlist. "Compare this kettle at three UK shops, with delivery costs. Stop before checkout." If it gets stuck, it asks you to take over. If a shop blocks it, try another.
- Let it prepare bookings. "Find a table for four in Leeds on Friday at 7pm and prepare the booking for my approval." ChatGPT asks before it confirms a booking or payment. Sign in only through its secure sign-in form, never in the chat.
- Add reminders. "Every Monday at 9am, remind me to send my timesheet." Manage them under Scheduled. Plus allows five active tasks at once (scheduled tasks).
UK options compared
| Option | Works in the UK? | UK price, as of 24 October 2026 | Main catch |
|---|---|---|---|
| ChatGPT Plus (Work) | Yes | £20 a month | Five scheduled tasks at once |
| Claude Pro (Cowork) | Yes | £18 a month including VAT | Browser tasks need the Claude desktop app open |
| Grok Bot | Yes, but tagging @bot on X isn't offered to UK accounts | $30 a month (about £23) plus VAT | All your Bots share one cloud computer in the US |
| ChatGPT Dots | Only on a Business Premium seat | £75 a seat a month billed yearly, two-seat minimum | Not on personal Pro plans in the UK |
| OpenClaw | Yes, on your own hardware | Free software; you pay for any cloud AI model you connect | Needs technical setup |
| Claude Duet, Gemini tasks (formerly Spark) | No | Not sold here | Duet is a US waitlist; Google excludes the UK |
What's new in Meta Muse in October 2026?
- 22 October: Meta restored Muse sharing with new links, two days after pausing it when security firm Claroc found more than 6,800 shared pages through public DNS records (The Next Web).
- 21 October: on Meta's results call, Zuckerberg said about 25% of people who set up Muse use it daily, Muse Wonder is now on paid plans, and Muse hasn't launched globally because it is compute-intensive to run (transcript).
- 20 October: Sensor Tower said Muse had passed 10.9 million downloads, more than 10.2 million of them in the US, and reached 2.5 million daily users on 16 October (Yahoo Finance). Meta's help centre also added one-time purchases of extra Muse tokens, which never expire (Meta).
- 15 October: Meta released Muse Spark Open, an open-weight model it says runs on two M5 Ultra Mac Studios.
- 12 October: Meta announced Muse Wonder and Muse Wonder Full, its strongest models. In the Muse app, Wonder went to subscribers first: on 21 October Zuckerberg said paying users can use it now, while the free tier stays on Muse Spark.
- 9 October: Sierra published a draft of the Personal Agent Protocol, nicknamed Poppy, adding 35 design partners including OpenAI and Visa.
- 8 October: The UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) opened a call for evidence on agentic AI, closing 20 November. It also said it has made enquiries with OpenAI, Anthropic and Meta about agentic AI, without naming Muse.
- 7 October: Microsoft said Muse is coming to Windows as a native app. Meta launched an iPad app the same day.
- 6 October: Meta and Sierra announced the Personal Agent Protocol, an open standard for how personal agents deal with businesses, including sign-in, with Shopify, Stripe, Walmart and others.
- 3 October: Wired reported that Muse keeps profiles of the people in your life.
September brought the Mac app (17th), Canada (18th) and Muse for Small Business (29th). Sensor Tower estimated about 2.8 million downloads in the first two weeks (TechCrunch) and more than 5 million by 30 September, when Muse had topped Apple's US App Store for 12 days (9to5Mac). On 20 September Amazon began blocking Muse from shopping on its site.
Update, 23 October 2026: on Meta's results call on 21 October, Mark Zuckerberg said more than 10 million people in the US and Canada had set up Muse, that shopping is the most common use and that the average purchase is over $200 (Yahoo Finance). On 22 October Alexandr Wang announced on X that Muse was launching in Japan. There is still no UK date. Anthropic's rival, Claude Duet, opened a US-only waitlist on 21 October.
Is Meta Muse free? How much does it cost in the UK?
Yes, Meta Muse is free with a usage limit; when you hit it, you wait or upgrade. Prices are from Meta's subscriptions page, as of 17 October 2026.

| Plan | US price | Rough UK equivalent | What you get |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | £0 | Muse with a usage limit that refreshes |
| Power | $20 a month | about £15 | 500 million Muse tokens a week |
| Maximum | $100 a month | about £75 | 3 billion Muse tokens a week |
There is no official pound price because Meta doesn't sell Muse here, and the page doesn't say whether tax is included. Tokens are chunks of text the AI reads and writes. Other costs:
- Purchases. You are responsible for every transaction Muse makes, and some can't be reversed.
- Future fees. Mark Zuckerberg said Meta expects to take a small fee on transactions Muse completes (TechCrunch, 23 September).
- Muse Code is separate. Plans cost $5, $15, $50 and $200 a month (about £4, £11, £38 and £150), per Meta's Muse Code page. By default they run in "Contributor mode", which lets Meta train future models on your code, until you switch it off; the change only applies from then on.
- Muse Spark Open at home. CNBC put a 256GB M5 Ultra Mac Studio at $10,799 or more (about £8,100), and Meta's own setup uses two 512GB machines, which weren't on sale yet; CNBC says two to four Mac Studios can be paired.
Compare with other agents in what AI agents cost in the UK.
What do you need to run Meta Muse?
Very little, because the work happens in Meta's cloud:
- A supported location: the US, Canada or Japan.
- A Meta account: made with Facebook, Instagram, or just an email address or phone number.
- To be 18 or over.
- A device: the Muse from Meta app on iPhone, iPad or Android, the Mac app, a browser at muse.ai, or WhatsApp.
- No technical skills. You text or talk to it.
How do you set up Meta Muse?
If you are in the UK, you can't complete these steps. People outside the US, Canada and Japan report a message saying Muse isn't available in their region, so see what UK users can do instead. In the US or Canada, this is the safest route:

- Install the official app. Search for "Muse from Meta" in the App Store or Google Play, or open muse.ai. Success is a Meta sign-in screen.
- Keep it separate. Sign up with an email that isn't linked to Facebook or Instagram. Meta says Muse then stays in its own Accounts Center.
- Turn off AI training. Go to Settings, then Data controls, and switch off "Help improve our AI models". Meta says this also covers past chats.
- Make Muse ask first. In Settings, then Permissions, set Connectors and Web access to "Always ask".
- Connect one app. In Settings, then Connectors, add only what your first task needs, read-only where offered.
- Check the Activity log. Tap your assistant icon to see what Muse did and plans next. Success is a list of actions you recognise.
- On a Mac, be careful with Full Disk Access. The Mac app asks for it. During setup, set Messages, Mail and Notes to Off or Read only.
UK developers could try Muse Code instead, though Meta doesn't confirm UK access. This is Meta's one-line Mac command. Read what a script does before running it.
curl -fsSL https://dev.meta.ai/install.sh | shHow do you use Meta Muse? First things to try
Start with tasks where a mistake costs nothing. These prompts work in most agents, so UK readers can try them elsewhere today.
- Subscription audit: "List every subscription in my email with its monthly cost. Don't cancel anything."
- Restaurant shortlist: "Find three quiet Italian restaurants for four on Friday at 7pm. Show me before booking."
- Recurring reminder: "Remind me on the 1st of every month to send my expenses."
- Price watch: "Track this air fryer and tell me if the price drops by 20%."
- Instagram to shopping list: "Turn the recipe reel I saved on Instagram into a grocery list."
- Inbox triage, drafts only: "Summarise today's unread emails and draft replies. Send nothing."
What do people actually use Meta Muse for?
Mostly shopping. On Meta's results call on 21 October 2026, Mark Zuckerberg said more than 25% of people using Muse shop with it, with an average purchase over $200 (about £150). Finance chief Susan Li named the top three categories as shopping, personal productivity and creativity. After shopping, people most often connect email and calendar (call transcript).
Meta's own launch examples include lowering a bill, selling a car and turning a saved Instagram recipe reel into a grocery list. Li said small business owners use it to improve ads, sort direct messages and keep websites in line with stock. Users skew older: TIME cited an Apptopia estimate that 46% of US users are 46 or over.
| Use case | Reported example | What to watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Shopping | The Verge's reviewer had Muse find and buy espresso machine supplies, approving with a quick "Go for it". | She found it "dangerously easy" to spend. Amazon blocks Muse. CNET's tester saw an unexplained $5 (about £4) gap at checkout. |
| Email triage | A New York Magazine columnist told NPR it "did a pretty good job at pulling together important-seeming things". | A chasing email it wrote for The Verge came out abrupt. |
| Quotes from local firms | The Verge's reviewer got junk removal quotes through online forms and a slot the next day. | It needed her address, phone number and photos. Phone-only jobs still need you. |
| Travel and refunds | Gizmodo's reporter got usable airline refund drafts. | Flight booking was clunky. United bans bots, and Expedia wouldn't connect. |
| Deal and news alerts | Android Authority's writer has it scan eBay twice a day and send news every couple of hours. | First results were poor until he tightened the criteria. |
| Household admin | An older user told TIME it compared the costs of nine medications in 10 minutes. | Check the figures. It is not a medical or financial adviser. |
What users say (individual opinions)
- Repeat jobs: a Reddit user in r/MetaAI gets medicine reminders every 10 minutes until confirmed, and has it book children's workshops when registration opens. Their verdict: it suits "ongoing jobs, not one-off questions".
- First week: a user in r/MuseAgent had it clear junk email, set reminders and find tickets and prices, using 39% of the free weekly allowance in nearly a week.
- Sceptics: one r/AI_Agents reply sums up the privacy worry: "If it's free, You're the product".
My reading of the evidence: Muse is best at repeat, low-stakes admin and shopping research. It struggles where websites block bots or a task needs a phone call.
Meta Muse tips and common problems
For readers in the US, Canada or Japan, or planning ahead. These fixes come from Meta's help centre and press reports.
- A task seems stuck. It is usually waiting for you. When Muse needs permission, its Sentinel gatekeeper pauses the task and shows a request in the app, outside the chat (Meta's security blog). Tap your assistant icon to see its status and the Activity log.
- Approve narrowly. Tap See task details, then pick "Allow once" or "Allow for this task", not "Always allow", which stops Muse asking for that action again (Meta's approval guide).
- A website blocks Muse. Amazon does, and The Next Web, citing the Wall Street Journal, says dozens of sites do. Tap Open browser, then Take control, or stop the task and finish on your own device (Meta's browser guide).
- You hit the usage limit. Wait for the free weekly limit to refresh, subscribe, or buy extra tokens once, under Settings, then Upgrade. Bought tokens never expire but aren't refundable, except where the law requires (Meta's token guide).
- The checkout total looks wrong. Check the price on the merchant's own site before you approve. Paying with Link by Stripe uses a one-time card number and adds Link's purchase protections (Meta's payments guide).
- Muse did something you didn't want. Ask it to stop or undo; a sent email can't be reversed. Disconnect the connector, then shake your phone or go to Settings, then Report an issue. To make it forget a topic, just ask (Meta's safety guide).
- An old share link stopped working. Meta paused sharing on 20 October after security firm Claroc found more than 6,800 shared pages through public DNS records. Sharing returned on 22 October with new links (The Next Web).
- Keep jobs apart. Use a side chat for each task and set limits in plain words, such as Meta's example: "Only search my email, not my text messages" (Meta's starter guide).

Is Meta Muse safe? Privacy, security and UK GDPR
Muse has more safety machinery than most agents, but it also asks for more of your life than almost any app. I would use it for low-stakes errands only.
What it can reach. Email, calendars, Instagram, payments, Apple Health and Android SMS. On a Mac it asks for Full Disk Access, which covers every file.
Where your data goes. Your data and saved logins live in your own cloud VM. Meta says the agent never sees your passwords, and payments use single-use card numbers from Link by Stripe. Meta doesn't say which country the VM is in, and its security blog says staff can still access data when needed to run or secure the service. A "Confidential VM" that would lock Meta out is promised for later in 2026.
Ads and training. The Muse Privacy Policy says chats and VM data aren't shared with Meta's ad systems. Training is on by default: "This setting is on when you first use Muse." Meta says it strips names, emails and phone numbers first.
Profiles of other people. Wired reported on 3 October that Muse's instructions tell it to keep "a page for every person in the user's life", updated hourly, including people who never use Muse. Meta told Wired an agent needs that context.
Known incidents:
- 21 to 22 September: researcher Patrick Wardle disclosed a Mac app flaw that let other software hijack Muse; Meta patched it on 22 September (Gizmodo).
- Reported 23 September: Inc. columnist Jason Aten said the Mac app synced more than 187,000 rows of his iMessages after he declined access (Decrypt). A Meta executive said the feature was opt-in; Aten disputes that.
You carry the risk. The Muse terms make you solely responsible for Muse's actions and cap Meta's liability at $250 or what you paid in the last 12 months, whichever is greater, except for gross negligence, wilful misconduct or fraud.
The UK GDPR angle. Muse has no UK terms because it isn't offered here, but a US friend's Muse may still hold notes about you. Meta's page for people who don't use Muse says it doesn't link that data to a Meta account, and lists a UK form for raising concerns. UK firms can answer the ICO's call for evidence until 20 November 2026. Our UK GDPR guide to AI agents explains your duties if you deploy one.
Safest settings: training off, Connectors and Web access on "Always ask", a separate email, one read-only connector at a time, no Full Disk Access unless you need it, and a weekly look at the Activity log.
Meta Muse vs ChatGPT Dots and other agents
As of 24 October 2026. Pound figures are rough conversions at $1 = £0.75.
| Agent | Price | Where it runs | UK availability | Privacy stance |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Meta Muse | Free; $20 or $100 a month (about £15 or £75) | Meta's cloud VM; phone, Mac, web, WhatsApp | No | Not shared with Meta ads; trains on chats unless you opt out |
| ChatGPT Dots | In the UK, a Business Premium seat (£75 a month billed yearly, £90 monthly); Pro from $100 outside the UK, EEA and Switzerland | OpenAI cloud computer | Business Premium or Enterprise (rolling out) | Access to your own computer is off until you turn it on |
| Instinct | No published price; invite-only beta | A cloud service you text or call | Not confirmed | Trains on your data unless you opt out |
| Grok Bot | $30, $100 or $200 a month (about £23, £75 or £150), plus VAT | SpaceXSI (formerly xAI) cloud computer | Yes; tagging @bot on X isn't offered to UK accounts | May pass tasks to outside models; ICO investigating Grok |
| Gemini Spark | Needs Google AI Pro ($20 a month in the US) or Ultra | Google's cloud browser or your Chrome | No | Needs Gemini activity saving switched on |
For UK readers, ChatGPT Plus with ChatGPT Work, Claude Pro and Grok Bot all work today, and ChatGPT Dots is available through a business plan; see our ChatGPT Dots guide. In the US, Muse is the cheapest way in. If you want your data on hardware you control, a self-hosted agent beats all five; our personal AI assistant guide compares the options.
Who should use Meta Muse?
Muse suits adults in the US or Canada who live in Meta's apps and want help with admin: bookings, reminders, price tracking and subscription clear-outs. Muse for Small Business suits North American owners who run Instagram and Facebook ads; UK firms should read our guide to AI agents for UK small businesses.
Skip it if you're in the UK, you don't want Meta holding your inbox, or you handle client, patient or legal data. For private work, start with running AI agents on your Mac.
Frequently asked questions
Is Meta Muse available in the UK?
No. As of 23 October 2026, Meta Muse is only available in the US, Canada and Japan, the countries Meta has launched in. Meta has given no UK launch date. On 21 October 2026 Mark Zuckerberg said Muse is costly in computing power to run, so Meta has not launched it globally yet. Meta AI, the chatbot in WhatsApp and Instagram, does work in the UK, but it is a different product from Meta Muse.
How can I get Meta Muse in the UK?
Officially, you can't yet, because Meta Muse requires you to be in a supported country. UK developers may be able to use Meta's Muse Code and Model API: the UK isn't on Meta's restricted list, though Meta doesn't confirm UK access. For a Muse-style agent you can use now, try ChatGPT Plus with ChatGPT Work at £20 a month, Grok Bot, or a self-hosted agent such as OpenClaw. ChatGPT Dots needs a Business Premium seat.
Is Meta Muse free?
Yes. Meta Muse has a free tier with a usage limit that refreshes. Power costs $20 a month (about £15) and Maximum $100 a month (about £75), per Meta's help page on 17 October 2026. Paying raises your weekly allowance but doesn't unlock Meta Muse in the UK.
Is Meta Muse safe?
Meta Muse has real safeguards: a private cloud computer per user, a gatekeeper agent, approval before purchases and hidden passwords. But it trains on your chats by default, keeps profiles of people you know and needed a Mac security fix on 22 September 2026. Use Meta Muse for low-risk errands, with training off and permissions on "Always ask".
Can I use a VPN to access Meta Muse?
Using a VPN to get round the country check would break Meta's rules. The Meta Terms of Service, which apply to Meta Muse, ban attempts to bypass the measures Meta uses to limit access, and Meta can suspend accounts that break them. With your real email and cards involved, it isn't worth the risk.
What is the difference between Meta Muse and Meta AI?
Meta AI is a chatbot inside WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook that answers questions and makes images, and it works in the UK. Meta Muse is an agent with its own cloud computer that acts for you, such as sending emails or buying things once you approve. Meta Muse has its own app and works only in the US, Canada and Japan.
Meta Muse vs ChatGPT Dots: which is better?
For UK readers, ChatGPT Dots wins by default: a Business Premium seat can get one here, while Meta Muse can't be had at all. Meta Muse is also far cheaper, with a free tier, while Dots need a Pro plan ($100 a month in the US) or, in the UK, a Business Premium seat, and it plugs into Instagram and WhatsApp. ChatGPT Dots keeps access to your own computer off by default.
Can I run Meta Muse on my Mac with Muse Spark Open?
Not really. Muse Spark Open is a downloadable model, not the Meta Muse app, so you get the brain without Muse's apps, connectors or cloud computer. Meta's setup uses two M5 Ultra Mac Studios with 512GB of memory each, not yet on sale on 17 October 2026; CNBC says two to four can be paired. For local AI on one Mac, see our Ollama guide.
What is Meta Muse mostly used for?
Shopping. On Meta's results call on 21 October 2026, Mark Zuckerberg said shopping is the most common use of Meta Muse, with more than 25% of people using it to shop and an average purchase of over $200 (about £150). Meta's other top categories are personal productivity, such as email and calendar, and creativity.
What is the closest thing to Meta Muse in the UK?
As of 24 October 2026, the most practical option is ChatGPT Plus at £20 a month, using ChatGPT Work with its cloud browser, Gmail connection and scheduled tasks. Claude Pro at £18 a month and Grok Bot at about £23 plus VAT also work in the UK. ChatGPT Dots needs a Business Premium seat, and Meta Muse itself isn't available here.
Why is my Meta Muse task stuck?
Usually it is waiting for you. When Meta Muse needs permission, its Sentinel gatekeeper pauses the task and shows a request in the app, not in the chat. Check the Activity log, then approve or deny. If a website or CAPTCHA has blocked it, take control of the browser. Some sites, including Amazon, block Meta Muse completely.
